The gaur, also known as the Indian Bison, was found in Kothrud and had strayed into a housing society. The gaur ran wildly for 3km for almost 4 hours and eventually it was tranquilized and captured by people and forest officials. However, the animal could not be saved and lost its life.
This incident caused the former forest department officials and experts to emphasize on specialized policies for wildlife management and awareness to stave off a situation that led to the gaur's death. With lands being cleared for agriculture and human settlements, animals that are found in hilly areas have found corridors to escape. Hence, a separate policy for wildlife management is the need of the hour.
