From 36 licences in June to 6,800 in November

There has been a considerable surge in the issuance of driving licences since the ‘unlock’. According to the Regional Transport Office (RTO), Pune, only 1093 learner’s licences were issued in June. The number went up to a whopping 25,570 in November. Similarly, only 36 permanent licences were issued earlier, while a total of 6,800 were granted last month.

“A lot of people may have learned driving during the lockdown and once the tests resumed, they must have applied for the licences,” an RTO official said.
