Where there is will, there is a way!

The melodious sound of flute that you hear amidst the traffic at Shivaji Nagar is from Gangadhar Ishwar Jadhav alias ‘Basriwale Baba’ who, at the age of 72 has adhered to living life with utter self-respect. As a child, Jadhav was fascinated by the flute he used to get during his pilgrimage to the village. He has been playing the instrument for 20 years and can effortlessly make you jingle to old melodies of famous singers like Hemant Kumar, Kishore Kumar, Mohammad Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar. He lives in Parvati and travels across the city crossing Garware Pool, Jangli Maharaj Road, Sambhaji Udyan, Hotel Goodluck, FC Road. He sits by the street and plays various songs on the requests of people for which they pay him 10-20rs in return. "I am not ashamed to sit on the street and play the flute," he said. "I have a fair knowledge of melody and rhythm. I have been playing this instrument since childhood. Citizens should turn to music and not give up."
