Founded in 1975, Ramamani Iyengar Yoga Institute is the epicenter of all things yoga. This institute is named after and dedicated to Smt. Ramamani Iyengar, the wife of Sri B.K.S Iyengar, the creator of ‘Iyengar yoga’. The institute imparts knowledge on and teaches Iyengar yoga. They hold classes that are open to all, even holding special classes for women, children and senior citizens.
The building of the institute itself is designed based on the principles of yoga. It has three floors to represent the body, mind and soul of every individual. The building also has eight columns to represent the eight pillars of ashtanga yoga, namely yam, niyam, asan, pranayam, pratyahar, dharan, dhyan and samadhi.
The classes at the institute are taught by Smt. Geeta S. Iyengar, Sri Prashant S. Iyengar or teachers trained by B.K.S Iyengar himself. Besides practical classes, the institute also has an extensive library containing nearly 8000 titles on topic ranging from yoga and Ayurveda to scriptures.
