Pune’s Tanay Manjrekar, the first Indian to successfully ride the hyperloop

Engineer Tanay Manjrekar is a power electronics specialist who works for Virgin Hyperloop. “Working on hyperloop, let alone being one of the first to ride it, is truly a dream come true,” said Tanay.

The top speed is estimated to be 670 miles or 1080 kilometres per hour for a passenger vehicle or light cargo. That is 10-15 times faster than traditional trains and 2-3 times faster than high speed rails. A hyperloop route between Mumbai and Pune would cut a 3 and a half hour journey to 35 minutes. Hyperloop’s system aims at supporting 200 million travelling passengers annually.

The newly-unveiled XP-2 vehicle, designed by BIG – Bjarek Ingels Group and Kilo Design, was used for the maiden voyage.
